Funny things

C now says "Okay Okay OKAY" when she is aggravated about something.

Z is obsessed with all things muppet. when she gets up in the morning, she runs to the box of little people to rescue kermit and piggy/beaker/animal. Always kermit, but his buddy for the day is flexible.

according to C, everyone is funny. but not mommy.

Z is no longer "baby". now she is "Doe-doe"

Oh Christmas Tree

Or should I say kitten tree? Sam has decided that the tree is his domain:

Needless to say there are no ornaments on it. and he has eaten a fair amount of garland. and fake tree needles. Don't lecture me about kitten digestive systems, I'm sure I'll get it from the vet when I take his poop sample in all sparkly next week.

C&Z adore the tree. The say hello to it every morning and then promptly look for "nammy" hiding in the branches. Lately they are into "huggies" for poor Sam. He likes this as much as he enjoys the hair dryer after a bath.

Ever blowdried a soggy kitten. massive good time. you should try it.

We also took the girls to get their pictures taken. More of a fiasco than last year, although, Z didn't barf on her own shirt this time. She did, however, try to escape our photo shoot and jump into other peoples. She was not very popular with the adults, but the other kids thought it was pretty funny. Then they realized there were two of them. C found the whole experience comical. The only time Z smiled was while she was chewing on an ornament. so sanitary.

So if I don't get a chance to post again, have a merry merry and happy happy whatever you celebrate. we celebrate everything.

And don't let your cat eat the tree. or the lights. or leaves he found on the floor. or old cheerios. or the candles in your christmas tree menorah. what? you don't have one of these?

home again home again

does anyone else feel like the fat hog? After witnessing self in vacation photos, I do believe it's time to actually diet and gasp attempt to lose extra 50lbs of baby weight. i can't even post the picture as i am too rotund and my children are drinking from bottles and i don't want to hear about it. Bottles make them sleepy and they take naps. and cookies make me happy and fat.

but here's a few shots of williamsburg, twin style.

Z's rockstar shot

Toes in the water

C and her accessories... pants optional

Wherein Z runs after a horsedrawn carriage, H pursues and C runs after yelling "NoNONONONO!"

Just how was vacation?

Yup, they hated it. Especially the swimming pool.

(as an update, Z slept through last night 7:15-6:30 and would have continued sleeping for at least a little while had her crabby sister not woken her up. C had to be rocked to sleep, per usual, but was only up around 2am and then again at 6. Tonight, same deal so far. Z sleeping by 7:30 C in the glider until almost 9. sigh)

Big Girls Don't Cry

Babies who look cute for Easter DO NOT like having their pictures taken:

In case you wanted to guess, C is on the left and yes, she has gel in her hair as she woke up looking like a rooster. or stegasaurus. Z is on the right and is apparently annoyed that the photo shoot is taking so long. I told her to talk to her sister.

The Great Digestion Debate

We've been doing solid food for a while now and I have some questions. I posed them to the twin club, but I thought I'd get some sage advice here as well.

C will eat most anything, but Z is a bit more discerning re: texture, temperature, color of spoon, etc. They eat two "meals" and I'm wondering what exactly I'm supposed to be feeding them. For "breakfast" they have fruit and sometimes yogurt (well, no yogurt for z. if it's not hot she's not opening her lips. one. bit) and for "dinner" they have two vegis and oatmeal (since neither will eat rice cereal). Is this normal? Should I be giving them cereal twice a day? It tends to bind them up and we had a fun night of screaming while not pooping on Monday that I'd like to never repeat. (You really don't know fun until you've physically removed poop from your baby's butt because she can't do it herself. Ask H. )

They seem to be otherwise happy and still nursing ~5-6 times a day. In other related weirdness, they will only eat cereal if it's mixed with formula and not just any formula, but the premie formula. I tried switching them to plain old similac and no one was having that. Z went on a bottle strike while I was at work and forget eating food mixed with new formula.

Oh and no one will drink from a sippy cup. The sight of the sippy cup makes Z cry and C uses hers as a teething toy. When I put them in their mouths to show them that there's liquid inside, they gag and look at me like I've offended them. I've tried putting plain water, sugar water, formula and breast milk in the sippy cups. Same looks of insanity. What should I do about this? Any thoughts? C knows exactly what to do with the cup; she grabs both handles and stuffs the spout into her mouth, but doesn't want to suck on it. Only chew it. Z wants it to go away and tosses it off the highchair tray. repeatedly. Will they ever learn to drink from a cup? Or will I be sending Z to school with a paper mache boobie in her Dora the Explorer lunch box?

*beware of picture below as it contains graphic images of obvious child neglect. Wherein I put my twins in walkers so that I can get the bathtub ready for them without listening to screams from the other room. I know, what a horrid parent I am.*

This was the other night while I was getting the bath together. Z scooted herself backwards until she could reach out and grab C's hand. They did this repeatedly and are totally fascinated with each others faces and hands now. Today I had Z in my lap and C was in her bouncy and they kept touching hands and cracking up. It's really freakin' cute.

* C is on the left and, yes, that is a phone book under her feet since the height doesn't adjust any lower and she is just a touch too short. thankfully, neither has really figured out how to move the walkers around too much. I fear the day of mobility*

After Much Anticipation

Here are the Xmas out takes. It's only a month late :)

Look how nice and smiley we are... such good babies....

Bleahahaha.... says Z. C is not amused.

Are we still doing this?
Really? Still?

Smell my foooot! Z smells it, can you? Scratch and sniff...

And Finally:
Oh! Snap!

Picture Post

I know I haven't had anything profound to say in a while, or ever... so here are some pics from the past month to show what we've been up to. See if you can guess who's who...

We've been cute:

We've been playing with toys:

We've been hanging off of poor mommy:

This last shot is purely for Crazy D so she can laugh at my double marsupial-ity. Please disregard the chaos going on in my kitchen and the fact that both babies are pretending they aren't doing anything remotely insane, like screaming non-stop for hours on end.

A Bloggy Poll

Alright faithful readers (all three of you), I'm going to allow to you vote on my next blog topic. I've had several things floating around my subconscious lately. Mostly because we've all been sick since Christmas and between the cold and the lack of sleep due to babies screaming through snot bubbles (ooh the visual on that one is just delish), I only have a subconscious.

here are the topics. Let me know which is least heinously boring:

1. Felipe the breast pump; our on-again-off-again love affair
2. Adventures in swaddling
3. The great cold of 2007
4. When I became an adult... unbeknownst to me
5. Out takes of the Christmas photo shoot (brought to you by the good people of Wally World)
6. Baby proofing: Do I even bother or should I just accept now that they are smarter than us?
7. Daily schedules. Now, with solid food and poop!!!

If none of these appeal to you, please feel free to write in your topic of interest. Perhaps I will care enough to answer your most burning questions re: my fascinating life here in Chez Baby Poop.

Ho Ho HO!

Yes, this is Santa and yes, he is sitting in my living room! Our local FD drives Santa around on the fire truck and he comes in, brings a small gift and takes a family photo. No mall, no lines, no crying.

It rocked.

Afterwards, my mom took this shot:

Even Petey got in it. The best part about twins is that you can hide behind them. :) H is off for the next few days and that means a lovely holiday for me. less diapers and less crying. Woohoo!!!

Happy Merry to Everyone!

Big Girl Food!!!

We started cereal this week. well, I don't know that any cereal was ingested, but it made a lovely fashion accessory. Chloe seems to be getting the hang of it. Zoe cries when she sees the spoon... We'll work it out I'm sure. I'm not stressing about it, I know they are getting enough nutrition from the nursing. I just thought it might be good for them to start to understand the ways of the utensil. C tends to be more interested in food in general. If I'm eating, she follows where the food goes i.e. plate to mouth. Z doesn't seem to care. Here's some pics of our foray into foods:

Happy Halloweenie!!!

C as Thing 1 and Z as Thing 2.

We are enjoying our vacation to virginia beach. It's a little cold, but we took walk on the beach today with the babies in carriers. They seemed to enjoy themselves, well, C slept in the sling, but Z took in the waves and sand and then fell asleep.

They are up to almost 7 oz on their middle of the night bottle. and today while we were out to lunch, C was watching me eat hushpuppies and licking her lips... could they be ready to start rice cereal?

If anyone has advise or suggested reading materials to start the twins on food or if it seems waaay too early for food.... i'm all ears

just some pics

here are some pics of the girly girls:

In the top shot Z is on the left and in the bottom, it's C.

Here's a quick list of things they have been up to in the last few days/weeks:

smiling
laughing
blowing bubbles (more Z than C)
grabbing blankets, shirts, necklaces
and.....
sleeping!!!!

while they aren't exactly sleeping through the night, per se, they are going 4 or 5 hours in between feedings. So last night they ate at 12:45 and then again around 6am. This is "through the night" as far as I'm concerned. H gets up at 6 anyway to go to work and I usually get up then as well to get some stuff done around the house while they catch a few more hours of sleep.

All that night time sleeping makes for crappy daytime naps, but who cares?! as long as I can sleep a few hours at night, I'll play the "hold-me-rock-me-stick-my-nimmie-back-in-while-I-slap-my-sister" game all day. well, at least until H comes home. then they're his problem :)

Unbelieveable Cuteness

I promise to write up all the gory details of how Chloe and Zoe made their arrival about 3 weeks ahead of time, but I just haven't processed it all yet.

Both girls are doing really well. They are still up at the hospital hanging out in the NICU gaining some weight and charming the nurses. Hopefully they will come home this week!
In unrelated news, here's what H and I accomplished last week in between schlepping tothe NICU at all hours:
  • new car
  • new windows in the house
  • new siding on the house (happening today)
  • 1 million more loads of baby clothes in premie sizes
  • 2 million pictures of the two cutest babies on planet earth

I made H go to work today since the girls have top quality baby sitters for the next few days and I can finally go to the bathroom on my own (I told you it was a gruesome delivery). He already used a week of leave watching me pee and driving me to the NICU at midnight because I can't sleep if I don't tuck them in. Oh, and the crying. sometimes rational, sometimes not. can't tell the difference.

But, like I said, it was worth it. I still can't believe they are mine.
